Bowman has criticized the Trump Administration's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the tapes released by journalist Bob Woodward that indicated that President Trump did not accurately represent the risk of COVID-19 to the public. In addition, Bowman has said that, "All COVID did was accelerate the inequities we already know. People can't ignore it anymore." During the pandemic, Bowman worked with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to assist New York families struggling to pay rent.
Bowman supports Medicare for All, saying, "America’s health care system is fundamentally broken and a single-payer health care system will save millions of lives."
Bowman supports the legalization of marijuana. He has been given an A rating from NORML. Bowman has stated, "When we legalize marijuana, let's make sure it's not just wealthy white lobbyists like John Boehner cashing in. It's insulting to our communities that people would get rich off a product that STILL criminalizes millions of black and brown people."
Bowman supports increasing access to mental health resources. In September 2020, Bowman stated, "We need to hire thousands of more mental health workers." He also stated that, "We must ... hold negligent pharmaceutical corporations criminally responsible for their role in the opioid epidemic."
Bowman has endorsed the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Act, the Prescription Drug Price Relief Act and the Affordable and Safe Prescription Drug Importation Act. These pieces of legislation would "allow the government to negotiate drug prices, lock them to the median of other comparable countries like France and Germany, and allow consumers to buy directly from cheaper markets like Canada."

Bowman is pro-choice. He has been endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Bowman supports the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, codifying Roe v. Wade into law and working to lower maternal mortality rates, especially for Black women.
Bowman was one of the only candidates to call out "maternal mortality" as a priority. His solution is Medicare for All, saying it will solve the "lack of quality health care and systemic racism [that] are major factors to address here," adding that, "Medicare for All will confront both racial and gender disparities in our health care system."
