From 2013 to 2015, Meijer worked as a conflict analyst for International NGO Safety Organisation. He was later employed by Olympia Development of Michigan of Ilitch Holdings as an analyst. Meijer launched his campaign in July 2019 following Representative Justin Amash’s departure from the Republican Party. Meijer received support from a number of prominent business families such as the DeVos family, as well as Congressional Republicans like Dan Crenshaw, Kevin McCarthy, Steve Scalise and Tom Cotton.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC

During his campaign, Meijer worked over a 12-week period to provide care packages to almost 3,000 individuals during the first several months of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has stated he supports a second COVID relief package.

Beginning in 2006, Meijer grocery stores offered a program in which prescription drugs were given to shoppers for free so long as they had a prescription from a doctor. Meijer estimated that through July 2019 the company had given out over $650 million in prescription drugs.

VETERANS HEALTH CARE

Meijer has been a long-time volunteer at Veterans organizations such as Team Rubicon, a nonprofit disaster response and humanitarian aid organization that organizes military Veterans to respond to crises. He serves on the Board of Directors for Student Veterans of America, an advocacy and support group that eases Veterans from combat life to college life.
